Bhutan
country profile

Bhutan joined the EIF in September 2009. A National Steering Committee ("NSC") was established and as a first phase in the EIF process, Bhutan has undertaken preparations in launching its Diagnostic Trade Integration Study ("DTIS"). The DTIS and its Action Matrix would be used to conform or revise the priority actions and strategies in the 10th Five-Year Plan (2008-2013). A pre-DTIS project proposal was approved in January 2010. The project aims at providing the Government of Bhutan with technical assistance and institutional support to take the EIF process forward, through enhancing the expertise and capacity of the NSC, Focal Point ("FP"), National Implementation Unit ("NIU") and other key stakeholders including the private sector, associations and provincial level officials. In coordination with the EIF process, and in particular, the upcoming DTIS, the UN Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity provides coordination to support the trade agenda, including investment, productive capacity-related issues and micro, small and medium enterprises.
