Guinea-Bissau
country profile
Guinea-Bissau joined the IF in October 2007, its Diagnostic Trade Integration Study ("DTIS") was finalized and validated in October 2009, and the DTIS Action Matrix recommendations were politically endorsed by the Government in January 2010. The DTIS focuses on the development of the following sectors, including; cashew nuts, rice, fisheries, tourism and mining. The new Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper ("PRSP") under preparation, the DENARP 2 (2010-2013) has a component on trade mainstreaming by incorporating the DTIS Action Matrix priorities. The new strategy of the DENARP also takes into account the cross-cutting issues, such as infrastructure development, telecommunications, a legal and regulatory framework, energy, private sector development, customs reforms, trade facilitation and trade policy. Under the EIF, Guinea-Bissau has put in place the National Implementing Arrangements ("NIAs") such as the National Steering Committee ("NSC") with a strong representation of the private sector and the civil society. Guinea-Bissau has prepared a Tier 1 project with support from UNDP, EIF and TFM, which once finalized, would be submitted for approval. The Standards and Trade Development Facility ("STDF") has also assisted to prepare a project proposal on sanitary and phytosanitary ("SPS"), and joint funding with the EIF would be envisaged from Tier 2 funds.
