Sierra Leone
country profile

Sierra Leone joined the IF in 2005 and undertook a Diagnostic Trade Integration Study ("DTIS") which was validated in October 2006 and endorsed by Cabinet in November 2006. The DTIS results guided the formulation of the 2nd generation Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper ("PRSP") which mandated the Ministry of Trade and Industry ("MTI"), to invest in private sector development. As a result, Sierra Leone benefited from two IFTF Window II projects in the areas of trade information and tourism. Under the EIF, Sierra Leone submitted a Tier 1 project, which was approved for implementation in July 2009. The project aims at strengthening the in‐country arrangements of the EIF to increase Sierra Leone’s ownership of trade related technical assistance ("TRTA") and to maximize the benefits that the country, in particular the private sector, could derive from their participation in the EIF. The project supports the National Implementation Arrangements ("NIAs"), with the National Implementation Unit ("NIU") established and provides for a DTIS update. Sierra Leone has submitted project ideas for Tier 2 projects.
