Tanzania
country profile
Tanzania joined the IF in 2004 and undertook a Diagnostic Trade Integration Study ("DTIS"), which was validated in November 2005. The DTIS priorities were included in the 2005-2010 Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper ("PRSP"), National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty ("NSGRP"). The Cabinet endorsed the DTIS in January 2007 and a Transition Task Force was appointed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing ("MITM") in May 2007 to implement the road map to full‐scale implementation of the DTIS and develop an IF implementation strategy. This strategy was finalized in March 2008, and approved by the MITM. The Tanzania Trade Integration Strategy, 2009‐2013 Framework Programme ("TTIS"), a DTIS update, was based on the DTIS and included a mapping of all ongoing and planned trade‐related projects and programmes with a gap analysis. As part of developing structures and mechanisms for implementing the TTIS, preparations for a Road Map for TTIS implementation in Zanzibar is underway. Tanzania benefited from one IFTF Window II project, Capacity Building for Trade Development and Integration, intended to strengthen the institutional framework and the exporters’ capacity to comply with technical standards and SPS standards in tourism and horticulture sub‐sectors.
