Trade Institutional Capacity Building: With the EIF's support Senegal. Capacity building trainings were also conducted on quality control and management for strengthening the food safety system, public‑private sector relations, trade defence instruments, results-based management, and for updates to Senegal's regulatory frameworks.

On 25 March 2022, the Ministry of Commerce in Senegal officially launched a three-year project aimed at increasing cashew production and boosting export supplies of quality processed products. With technical capacity in project development and implementation, the NIU in Senegal managed to secure USD 3.1 million for the project from the Ministry of Finance.

Boosting the competitiveness of the mango sector: Through EIF support, over 1000 people (20% of which women) were trained on production and processing techniques and pest management. A new label 'Mangue du Senegal' was launched. Market analysis for exporting fresh and processed mango to Maghreb countries was completed. New international markets now accessed include the European Union, Morocco, Mauritania, Ghana and Gabon.

The EIF's support contributed to export volumes of mango reaching 22,745 in 2021 (compared to the 2013 baseline of 11,515), with a value of over USD 22.7 million dollars.

Strengthening the national quality infrastructure: The EIF worked to strengthen the national quality infrastructure to improve Senegalese products' access to international markets and strengthen regional integration. This included strengthening the metrological infrastructure and technical capacity of laboratories as well as regulatory bodies in the implementation of national and regional metrology regulations. The EIF project also supported companies in their products and systems certification processes.

E-commerce support: Through the EIF, Senegal has developed and continues to strengthen its new e-commerce platform, Boutik221, with 655 businesses across the country having registered on the platform as of the end of 2022.

The EIF also supported the development and operationalization of an e-commerce strategy through an E-Commerce Strategy Steering Committee and Working Group. These efforts have enabled a cross‑ministry dialogue around Senegal’s participation in the WTO’s joint initiative negotiations on e-commerce.

EIF aims to support Senegal’s integration into the international trading system, including through sectoral development.
