THE GAMBIA: Trade and jobs

“Since I started cashew farming, I have realized a lot of potentials... That is, my role ensures, sustains me and my family and maintains our standard of living... my vision is for cashew farmers to have access to processing machines and viable markets.”

Alhagi leads the National Cashew Farmers Association driven by 5,500 members who are working together with the EIF and ITC support to promote cashew nut production countrywide. With this support, cashew nuts are being made competitive in order to increase market sales by 5% to 10% with farmers' (like Alhagi's) savings going up from 100 Gambian dalasi (US$3) to 1,000 Gambian dalasi (US$30).
