Geneva, 22 August 2013
His Excellency Minelik Alemu Getahun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN Office in Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland in his capacity as Chair of the Enhanced Integrated Framework Board and following the WTO Director-General’s conclusion of the selection process, has announced the appointment of Dr Ratnakar Adhikari as the Executive Director of the Executive Secretariat for the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) replacing Mrs Dorothy Tembo whose tenure comes to an end on 31st October 2013.
The EIF, an Aid for Trade programme for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), is a global partnership between LDCs, Donors and International Organizations that support EIF Countries to be more active players in the global trading system by helping them tackle supply-side constraints to trade. In this way, the EIF works towards a wider goal of promoting economic growth and sustainable development and helping to lift more people out of poverty.
Dr Adhikari comes with extensive country experience in trade and development as well as in management, and joins the program at a critical phase, when it is building on the recommendations from the Mid-term Review of the EIF with the strategic focus on consolidating the in-country efforts and delivery of results.
Dr Adhikari has served in a number of capacities both in the private and public sectors within and outside of Nepal with his latest posting being Chief Executive Director of the South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) in Nepal. He holds a Doctorate obtained from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. He also holds a Masters of International Law and Economics obtained from the World Trade Institute in Berne, Switzerland and a Masters of Commerce obtained from the University of Delhi, India.
