In order to support exports, Burundi undertook feasibility studies to examine: 1) the construction of a cold storage facility at the Bujumbura airport; 2) supporting tourism sector development through the identification and delimitation of the tourist sites; and 3) a revision of legislation concerning Burundi’s Export Processing Zone (EPZ) programme.

 Results

  • The final report of the construction of a cold storage facility at the Bujumbura airport was adopted by the EIF National Implementation Unit (NIU) in March 2015.
  • The report on the identification of tourist sites carried out by the UN World Tourism Organization was analyzed by the NIU in June and subsequently revised and adopted.
  • The report on communication support to promote tourism to Burundi is being finalized under the supervision of the Burundi National Tourism Office.
  • The bill on the protection of Burundian tourism sites was updated based on the recommendations of the NIU.
  • The review of legislation concerning Burundi’s EPZ was awarded to the Quédraogo-Nihangaza consortium in January 2015. The final report was presented to the NIU in April 2015.
