The aim of this project is to work alongside the Business Promotion Unit to guide the process of mainstreaming trade‑related policies and strategies into the National Development Plan. By strengthening institutional capacities to formulate and implement national trade strategies, the EIF can support Kiribati in achieving poverty reduction, inclusive growth and sustainable development.

 Results

  • Trained Government staff within the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives on UNDP and EIF reporting requirements, as well as procurement and finance processes.
  • Held a training workshop for 33 participants including representatives from UNDP and the New Zealand High Commission, as well as representatives from the ministries of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives; Education; Finance and Economic Development; Foreign Affairs and Immigration; Internal Affairs and Social Development; Environment Lands and Agricultural Development; Coummunications, Transport and Tourism Development; and Labour and Human Resources Development.
  • Incorporated trade policies into sector strategies for agriculture, industry, fisheries, tourism, labor and industry.
