The goal of the project is to increase exports by strengthening institutional capacities to formulate and implement national trade strategies and policies. This will result in poverty reduction and sustainable development in Burkina Faso through trade.
Results
The Action Plan for the Sectoral Policy for Industry, Trade and Handicraft 2011-2020 (POSICA - Politique Sectorielle 2011-2020 de l’Industrie, du Commerce et de l’Artisanat) has been updated. POSICA and its Action Plan covers trade facilitation, key priority markets, environmental protection, gender equality, and poverty reduction.
- The Government budget dedicated to the implementation of POSICA increased by 11.74% from 2014 to 2015.
- Technical Partners and Donors are involved in monitoring the implementation of POSICA.
- The Strategy for Accelerated Growth and Sustainable Development 2011-2015 (SCADD - Stratégie de croissance accélérée et de développement durable 2011-2015) is being revised.
- Sector strategies including: rural development, industry, energy, tourism, and transport have incorporated trade.
- Public-private consultations take place very year and are chaired by the Prime Minister. The 14th edition was held in April 2015 in Bobo-Dioulasso.
- Donors in Burkina Faso are aligning their Aid for Trade with the Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS) and its Action Matrix. A trade facilitation initiative is jointly-financed by the United States of America, Chinese Taipei, and France.
- A Medium‑term Plan integrating the priorities of the analytical study (the DTIS Update) is being developed by UNCTAD.
