Trade Development/Sector Support: Cambodia Export Diversification and Expansion Program Part II (CEDEP II): Cassava, Marine Fishery Products, the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA) and Program Evaluation Function

Tourism is a highly competitive sector worldwide. In Cambodia, there is a shortage of qualified kitchen staff, and employers often need to turn to workers from other countries. Cambodia needs more skilled workers in the hospitality sector in order to compete in the tourism sector.

 The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA) project has two main objectives:

Institutional Capacity‑Building Project

The aim of the project is to support the development of agricultural value chains (shea almond, gum arabic, mango and livestock). Private sector capacities are strengthened through training, support for the improvement of quality of goods and equipment acquisition. These activities are carried out in partnership with industry associations.

Results

  • The EIF supports the UTRAFRUY fruit processing unit, which produced 5659 pots of mango jam (220 grams each) and 1517 pots of mango compote in 2015.

Trade Development/Sector Support: Strengthening institutional capacity of key national trade facilitation agencies to deepen Maldives capacity to competitively engage in international trade in goods and services

The project is strengthening the capacity of trade facilitation institutions by focusing on: (a) customs modernization with full migration to the Automated SYstem for CUstoms Data (ASYCUDA) World; and (b) strengthening the regulatory capacity of the Civil Aviation Authority to implement a robust economic regulatory framework to engage private sector in management of airport infrastructure.

Results

Trade Development/Sector Support: Strengthening of Productive and Marketing Capacities of Benin (Renforcement des capacités productives et commerciales (RCPC) du Bénin)

The objective of the project is to contribute to poverty reduction by strengthening the production, commercial and exporting capacities of Beninese companies. The project will provide technical assistance to SMEs in the pineapple, shea almond and cashew value chains for production, quality control and commercialization.

Trade Development/Sector Support – Mécanismes de soutien aux exportations

In order to support exports, Burundi undertook feasibility studies to examine: 1) the construction of a cold storage facility at the Bujumbura airport; 2) supporting tourism sector development through the identification and delimitation of the tourist sites; and 3) a revision of legislation concerning Burundi’s Export Processing Zone (EPZ) programme.

 Results

Trade Development/Sector Support: Support to Agro‑processing Special Economic Zone road map and Promotion of Value‑added Exports Project

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is developing an Agro-Processing Special Economic Zone (AP SEZ) in order to support the promotion of commercial farming for priority NES crops. Malawian agro-processed products will also be promoted by establishing an MITC office in Tete, Mozambique to operate as a regional marketing office for Malawi’s products.

 Results

  • A team of five officers visited Zambia to learn how Special Economic Zonesare developed and operated in an African setting.
