The purpose of the project is to address trade constraints through specific mainstreaming projects in line with the implementation of the National Trade Policy Framework.

Results

  • The first National Trade Policy Framework was developed and launched in March 2015.

  • Incorporated trade into the National Development Strategy 2011-2020.

  • Incorporated trade into the sector strategies for agriculture, tourism and fishing, and commerce.

Institutional Capacity‑Building Project

The project aims to enable Togo to become a fully integrated and active player in, and beneficiary of, the global trading system by mainstreaming trade and addressing trade‑related constraints.

 Results

  • 750 economic operators across five regions were trained on new commercial regulations and different development programmes.
  • 72 trade support professionals participated in a training workshop on the EIF, trade and gender.
  • The Ministry of Trade developed a communications strategy and a training strategy.

Trade Development/Sector Support: Sustainable Tourism Development and Promotion Project

The overall objective of the Sustainable Tourism Development and Promotion Project is to create an enabling environment for sustainable growth of the tourism sector, thereby rebranding the image of the country, creating jobs, conserving the environment and reducing poverty.

Results

  • An Ecotourism Policy and Action Plan was formulated by the company Planning Green Futures. It was validated by stakeholders in July 2015 and approved by the Cabinet in September 2015.

Institutional Capacity‑Building Project

The project aims to develop and reinforce existing institutional capacities for the formulation and implementation of trade strategies and their incorporation into national development plans.

 Results

Participation in trade negotiations and international meetings has enhanced the capacity of the Department of External Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Industry and Tourism and the Trade Development Division (the NIF-NIU).
