Institutional Capacity‑Building Project

 The project aims at strengthening Lesotho's integration into the world trading environment and complements the implementation of the Poverty Reduction Strategy, as well as the country’s efforts in raising competitiveness, productive capacity and product diversification. The project focused on supporting the EIF National Implementation Unit (NIU) to build and strengthen capacity for the coordination of activities particularly related to trade mainstreaming, donor coordination and productive capacity building.

 Results

Trade Development/Sector Support

The project aims to comprehensively improve the cross-border business environment by addressing institutional mechanisms, trade-related capacities and strategic trade support infrastructure. The overall objective is to improve the livelihoods and earning potential of those engaged in Cross‑Border Trade (CBT) in Rwanda, of which 74% are women.

 Results

Trade Development/Sector Support: Strengthening National Quality Infrastructure and Industrial Statistics in Lao PDR

The National Quality Infrastructure component assists Lao PDR in building the national standardization system, developing a national metrology system to ensure the uniformity and traceability of measurements, building technical infrastructure for accreditation; achieving mutual recognition of accreditation and certification results, and creating private sector awareness of the importance and benefits of implementing international quality standards.

Institutional Capacity‑Building Project

The project aims at enabling the SPIU to effectively steer the EIF process in the country and increase ownership of trade‑related technical assistance.

Results

  • The Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS) and Action Matrix were updated in March 2014 to solidify linkages with the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS II 2013-2018) and the Private Sector Strategy 2013‑2018. The revised DTIS was disseminated to 198 exporters to increase knowledge in standards, market requirements, export substitution and promotion.

Institutional and Capacity‑Building Project

The aim of this project is to work alongside the Business Promotion Unit to guide the process of mainstreaming trade‑related policies and strategies into the National Development Plan. By strengthening institutional capacities to formulate and implement national trade strategies, the EIF can support Kiribati in achieving poverty reduction, inclusive growth and sustainable development.

 Results

Trade Development/Sector Support – Mango Sector

Approximately 85% of the 380,000 people living in these two regions are reliant on mango production for their income, which includes 258,000 women producers and harvesters who combine mango production with gardening and handicraft. The project aims to improve the competitiveness of the mango sector and small producers in particular, by reinforcing and strengthening the capacity of all actors involved in the mango value chain.

Institutional Capacity‑Building Project

This project seeks to strengthen the Ministry of Trade’s institutional and human resources capacity to facilitate trade mainstreaming, coordinate delivery of Aid for Trade and ease the implementation of prioritized projects.

 Results

  • Two sessions were held for young, unemployed graduates in Conakry in business and export training on local products.
  • Supported the Guinean Government in incorporating trade into the national strategy for economic and social development.

Trade Development/Sector Support: Support to the hides and skins sector

Purpose of the project is to improve the competitiveness of the hides and skins sector by strengthening the capacity of actors involved in the value chain across Niger’s eight regions.

Results

  • Developed educational materials on topics including livestock branding, skinning techniques, conservation techniques for hides and skins and tanning processes.

  • 5 abattoirs have been equipped with proper skinning materials.
