Institutional Capacity‑Building Project

The project aims to reinforce the institutional implementation by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Promotion of Young Entrepreneurs. The project also aims to develop capacities for formulation and integration of trade‑related policies into the national development programmes and to facilitate regional and international integration of trade.

Results

  • 45 entrepreneurs (bakers, butchers, women agricultural processors and restaurateurs) were trained on hygiene and quality standards.

Institutional Capacity‑Building Project – Mainstreaming Trade

The goal of this project is to mainstream trade through the Programme for Accelerated Growth and Employment (PAGE), which is The Gambia’s development strategy and investment programme. Trade issues are integrated into Pillar I: Accelerating and Sustaining Economic Growth. Through the PAGE, the Government continues to maintain an open and liberal trading environment in order to better integrate The Gambia into the global economy.

Results

Trade Development/Sector Support Project: Implementing the NTIS in the Sector of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

This project focuses on six districts in the Mid-Western and Far-Western development regions of Nepal. The majority of the activities will be implemented through private sector actors who have high interest in a reliable supply chain and strengthened market linkages to cater for market demand. The project has three desired outcomes:

  • Improving production and manufacturing practices, with a focus on sustainability and marketability of products.

The goal of the project is to increase exports by strengthening institutional capacities to formulate and implement national trade strategies and policies. As a result of these trade strategies, The Gambia will be able to realize poverty reduction, inclusive growth and sustainable development.

  • 14 sub-grants were created to improve productivity in priority areas identified in the DTIS Action Matrix, including fisheries, horticulture, ports, cashews, tourism, SMEs and women in agriculture.

 The purpose of this project is to contribute to the economic and social development of Nepal through the export growth of Chyangra Pashmina products.

 Results

  • Prices paid to farmers by Chyangra Pashmina enterprises were around 90% higher than what Chinese traders paid.

Institutional Capacity‑Building Project

The second phase of the Growth and Transformation Plan will run from 2016 to 2020 and identifies the following three goals:

    1. Ensuring the building of Change Forces of the Trade Sector and Improving Execution capacity;
    2. Establishing a Modern and Fair Trading System; and
    3. Enhancing foreign currency earnings through strengthening modern market promotion and linkage system.

 This project will help achieve these objectives and facilitate the country's efforts in poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Trade Development/Sector Support Project: Ginger Competitiveness Project: Enhancing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Capacity of Nepalese Ginger Exports through Public Private Partnerships

The project contributes to increasing the income level of ginger farmers through improvements in Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) arrangements and value addition for exports.

Results

  • 1891 farmers were trained on seed production, storage, marketing, SPS/post-harvest loss, safe handling and location-based ginger production.

  • Increased farmer level income by 62%.

  • Decreased post-harvest loss by 30%.

  • Increased ginger rhizome production by 4%.
